During the first UK Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, we wanted to provide an opportunity for people to enjoy live music. As face to face work became restricted we took our music making online and learned how to transfer our work onto screens.
After partnering up with Great Places Housing Group, a weekly online music service for residents was set up that ran from May to August. The sessions were dementia friendly and suitable to residents over 50.
We live streamed each week and created a “live lounge” feel, leading sing-along sessions and taking requests as we played.
Although residents who came to the sessions delighted in the music and the regular connection, we underestimated the digital exclusion some people experienced during the lockdown and this has been reflected in our multi-platform return to both online and on-site work since restrictions have lifted.
